What’s your favorite part about being a university recruiter? I’m guessing it probably has something to do with the motivated and talented students you get to meet at this exciting phase of their lives.
All of the other stuff—the administrative tasks, the aggressive hiring goals, the need to justify your department to management—you could probably do without, right?
Well, I’ve got some good news for you: The time you spend on campus with students is a huge factor in the overall success of your university recruiting program.
One of the keys to rocking on-campus recruiting is to start with a clear understanding of your goals from participating in these events. Experienced university recruiters know that it’s all about establishing your brand and building your talent pipeline rather than filling open positions immediately.
You want to take every interaction as the opportunity to spread the word about your company and what makes it so great. All it takes is one bad interaction for students to write off your company entirely—and they have no problem sharing these negative experiences with their friends, either.
